In my neverending quest to prove that all politicians are idiots and most likely insane, I bring you this:

Just about a year and a half ago, Sen. John McCain went to court to try to curtail the influence of a group to which A. Jerrold Perenchio gave $9 million, saying it was trying to "evade and violate" new campaign laws with voter ads ahead of the midterm elections.

As McCain launches his own presidential campaign, however, he is counting on Perenchio, the founder of the Univision Spanish-language media empire, to raise millions of dollars as co-chairman of the Arizona Republican's national finance committee.

Yeah, "soft money" is Bad Bad Bad™. Unless McCain needs it.

I dont think he is an idiot I just think he will do anything to get elected ..as will most if not all of them but yanno when he ran against GW I would have voted for him .he was for campaign reform he said the christian right were agents of intolerance . he had the straight talk express... which this year changed to the .. I am somewhere to the right of anyone running .. no matter what the issue ..the republican primaries are dominated by conservatives who dont like his stances , but hell they are not gonna like guillianis either , pro choice, pro gun control , etc..or Mitt Romney who was pro choice when he ran in 94 but now is anti abortion.. the one thing it does illustrate is as I agree with Trip shaft ..federally financed elections .. maybe a defined election season say 4 months ..if you can't covince a mo fo ( to use a moniker our oh so christian conservative governor has been quoted using in casual conversation) in four months then maybe you dont deserve the job .. if we want our government back we have to figure out a way to lessen the money ..start looking at 100 million a candidate just to get thru the primaries ,, and their ass is bought and sold before they run for prez which is another 100 million ..its obscene and the deal is the people cutting the checks arent you driving that truck or mr small buisinses man clovis ..i guarantee you..

There's a no-shitter for ya! And here's another idea: instead of letting them cruise around in private jets to campaign, how about riding with a trucker (namely me) from town to town? I've got an earful for 'em. Mebbe the term "disgruntled voter" will sink in.
