A Historic Election
Submitted by cLovis on Mon, 2008-11-10 20:46.Its historic not only because of the candidate but the process. We who play on this site , not so many anymore , argued vehemently ,passionately about our politics here. This election was a culmination of that national discussion. A referendum on deregulation(AIG just got another 40 billion of our money)The miracle is in the orderly transition. The recognition by men and women of good faith , differing beliefs that we all regardless of our political persuasion support the process. My self being raised in west Texas /New Mexico who when I would go to to Eastland to visit my grampaw at 5 and a little older , the town still had separate drinking fountains , what a sea change in my life time . I spent election night at the Driscol hotel ,down town Austin the Dems official party . My favorite moments were seeing the emotions on the older black voters when the results actually sank in , such a joyous moment for them , I felt blessed to share it . My personal non tear jerker best moment was two men witnessed from the balcony we were drinking at running down 6th st. carrying a 15 'or so banner with two words on it "Mission Accomplished". Whichever side you supported , the renewing joy of a functioning democracy . John Mccain gave the best speech of his campaign in his concession speech. His service to country is not to be denied but honored. As for Ms Palin , I will let you witness the various reports and decide for your self . My personal sense is Mr. Mccain's campaign was not well served by her presence, but I leave it to the pundits . P.S. Can I be the next ambassador to Mexico , I have actually been there though its not visible from My porch .
Register To vote and or Vote
Submitted by cLovis on Sun, 2008-10-05 21:14.Tomorrow is your last day in Texas to register to vote . mon . oct. 6th. ohio has a thing going on on where you can register and vote the same day .Come out and play . I disagree and have made it clear several times with some posters here , but it only works as a democracy if we all play . I know republicans want Ids and all that crap , but if you look at the data .. voter fraud by voters is small ,nearly non existent . Where voter fraud occurs is with unverifiable electronic machines(no paper trail) , hated by both sides . caging ( sending voters a letter if you dont respond they say you dont live there, check ohio for that one )etc. democracy is a fragile thing , we are all better off the more that play . I dont agree with most people that post here ,but I welcome your participation , instead of shut up and sit down , I as a democrat would also tell republicans ,stand up be counted. worry when people talk about limiting the vote . voter fraud has never been shown to be above 1% if that , voter supression (lack of machiness, lack of poll workers , locations ,purging of voter rolls etc)exceeds 5% of lost votes. get out the vote , support democracy no matter which side you support .
The end of Deregulation
Submitted by cLovis on Sun, 2008-09-21 21:08.For 30 yrs , the conservative mantra has been if government will get out of the way of business , business will regulate it self . We had the repeal of the casey/steagall act of 1933 depression era laws to keep the firewall seperate from banks and investment co. etc , to stop abuses at that time . The repeal was accomplished by the Gramm.Leach Bliely act of 1999 ,Phil Gramm being the chief author , Mccains chief financial advisor. His wife was a member of the commerce comittee who went to work for Enron and took nearly 2 million dollars in compensation before they crashed , meanwhile defrauding Calif to the tune of several hundreds of million dollars. the same advisor who told us there is no finacncial crisis in America ,you are whiners. Now we have seen the largest collapse in American history of our financial system . American taxpayers are now the stockholders in AIG , Fannie Mae , Freddie Mac. . Lehman brothers is bankrupt , Morgan stanley aquired by Bank of aamerica. So what republicans embrace , when they make profits , they go to private companies , when they collapse we the american tax payer are the ones on the line . WTF
The olympics
Submitted by cLovis on Tue, 2008-08-05 00:30.and amreican pride . We should be proud , this is a city America paid for . about Bejing
The Olympic host city is announced seven years prior to the actual Games because of all the logistical planning and development needed to hold a successful event. Soon after its winning bid, Beijing went to work building the necessary infrastructure: world-class sporting venues, an Olympic village, a modern transportation system, etc. In all, the Beijing government has spent an estimated $38 billion to modernize the city for the Olympics, mostly for the aforementioned transportation systems and sporting venues. admirable right then look at what our interest each year is on the national debt ..debt hel primarily by China .. we built them a hell of a city ...and havent even touched the principal
Liberal Media
Submitted by cLovis on Thu, 2008-07-24 21:24.and CBS..man they have been slammed for being liberals . What I would say is corporate media and just as mistrusted for good reason by progressives like me . Note the following coverage as edited by CBS on her(Katie Couric's) interview with John Mccain and the folowing video by josh marshall of TPM media. No wonder the networks hate bloggers ..can you say ."who are you gonna believe your lying eyes or the media spin",straight from you tube let no BS pass uncalled .click here the first with two different reports one edited , one "ammended "cough , for the news . This one the second one talking about the actual facts in the report with the actual people speaking and the dates click here to quote Faux news ..we report you decide.
Robert Novak
Submitted by cLovis on Thu, 2008-07-24 18:36.Conservative columnist . republican shill , most famous for outing CIA agent Valerie Plame in print and claiming no responsibility. ran over a pedestrian crossing at a traffic light and left the scene until stopped by a man on a bicycle. More of that hypocricy of personal responsibility exhibited by this admin and their shills..and the news is liberal? The bicyclist was David Bono, a partner at Harkins Cunningham, who was on his usual bike commute to work at 1700 K St. N.W. when he witnessed the accident.
A Nation of whiners
Submitted by cLovis on Sat, 2008-07-12 19:58.according to John Mcains chief financial advisor Phil Gramm.
"You've heard of mental depression; this is a mental recession," he said, noting that growth has held up at about 1 percent despite all the publicity over losing jobs to India, China, illegal immigration, housing and credit problems and record oil prices. "We may have a recession; we haven't had one yet."
"We have sort of become a nation of whiners," he said. "You just hear this constant whining, complaining about a loss of competitiveness, America in decline" despite a major export boom that is the primary reason that growth continues in the economy, he said.

Its time
Submitted by cLovis on Thu, 2008-04-10 23:23.for John Murtha /democrat to go . I was pleasantly surprised when he said it was time to get out of Iraq . His support and constant draining of earmarks however make him another one of those blood suckers dining at the corporate table , while tax payers pay the tab. "More is on the way. In the massive 2008 military-spending bill now before Congress -- which could go to a House-Senate conference as soon as Thursday -- Mr. Murtha has steered more taxpayer funds to his congressional district than any other member. The Democratic lawmaker is chairman of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Defense, which will oversee more than $459 billion in military spending this year"
I have always said
Submitted by cLovis on Sun, 2008-04-06 17:50.the primary thing we have to worry about in this country is not left vs right , but the power of the corporation in "our " government. The biggest dangers of a supreme court is not the danger of roe vs wade being overturned ,but a supreme court totally on the side of big buisiness against the individual. Another brick in that wall with the way this court under john roberts is proceeding. Corporations always right , the individuals protections , not so much .To quote george orwell in animal farm " The 7 Commandments are abridged for the last time, simply reading, "All animals are equal but some animals are more equal than others." the state(government) run and controlled by corporate power is the definition of fascism according to Mussolinni, the founder of fascism .

obamas speech
Submitted by cLovis on Tue, 2008-03-18 22:00.As good a speech as I have heard covering the racial divide .Barrack obama is as good an orator as anyone in modern history, including FDR and JFK , the test is whether it translates into measurable action . Irregardless, this speech makes me proud I voted for him ,win, lose or draw. There is not another candidate out there would have made this speech even if they could have . Mccain and Hillary would have huddled with their advisors read a few polls and hoped it all dies away like Mcain with the rev Hagee(google john Hagee and Mccain if interested),who calls the catholic church "the great whore " and equates it with hitler. links here for obama, worth listening to even if you dont agree , or reading if you like the actual transcript.click here
How the mighty have fallen
Submitted by cLovis on Sun, 2008-03-16 21:32.Elliot Spitzer , the nemesis of Wall street , rising democratic star , governor of NY, sex scandals and politicians seem to be nearly as old s the the oldest profession, it still amazes me .
"It was, in many ways, a Jimmy Swaggart moment for New York State: the sloppy fall of a man known for his uprightness, his starched shirts (white shirts every day), and the vigorous adjectives he reserved for those deemed less righteous (as the Wall Street giant — and perennial Spitzer adversary — Ken Langone noted in a Wall Street Journal op-ed, the governor called him "unsavory", "deceptive" and "tainted"). No honour among Thieves
Submitted by cLovis on Sun, 2008-03-16 21:28.The former treasurer for the National Republican Congressional Committee diverted hundreds of thousands of dollars -- and possibly as much as $1 million -- of the organization's funds into his personal accounts, GOP officials said yesterday, describing an alleged scheme that could become one of the largest political frauds in recent history. click here
